Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) is a non-invasive skin treatment that can be used to lighten or eliminate scars, sun spots, rosacea and other irregular pigmentation. The technology uses a high-powered, computer controlled hand-piece to deliver a pulse of light to the blemishes which are then heated to destruction and reabsorbed by the body.
Acne and Scaring
Acne can be treated with IPL alone or in combination with other clinical treatments. Acne scars can be reduced using Fractional Laser therapy.
Sun spots, age spots, liver spots and actinic keratosis can be effectively treated with Intense Pulsed Light. They are associated with premature ageing and exposure to UV radiation from the Sun. Areas commonly affected are the hands, face, shoulders, arms and forehead.
Rosacea or facial thread veins respond very well to IPL therapy with minimal downtime. We usually recommend three treatments each one month apart initially.
Skin Rejuvenation (Photofacial)
IPL can reduce wrinkles and rough texture of photoaged skin. The procedure is non invasive and normally takes around 40 minutes. You can see a difference after one photorejuvenation treatment with IPL although the results usually develop gradually in the weeks following the procedure. These treatments can be readily combined with other minimally invasive aesthetic procedures such as dermal fillers and botulinum toxin to enhance results. The course may consist of 3-5 treatments set approximately 4 weeks apart.
IPL Skin Pigmentation Removal Side Effects
Whilst not painful, patients report feeling a stinging sensation similar to an elastic band being flicked against the skin. Your skin might feel slightly sore after the treatment, but this resolves in 24-48 hours. Pigmentation will go darker after the treatment and take 7-10 days to fade.
